(TL9+) Designing boltguns using the weapon design rules found in GURPS Vehicles (3e) has always been somewhat of a challenge... bolts shall be designed as miniature missile with a calibre of .75 (19.1mm) to 1.00 (25.4mm) (astartes versions include the 1.00 calibre). warheads should be huge with a minimum velocity of 600 yds/sec, and a motor weight of 0.05 or higher. standard 0.75 bolts have a speed of 600 yds/sec (angelus-bolt has a speed of 610 yds/sec) standard 1.00 bolts have a speed of 800 yds/sec 1.25 bolts (31.8mm) and 1.50 bolts (38.1mm) represent purely astartes pattern ammunition... nominal speed should be kept at 800 yds/sec for 1.25 bolts and 900 yds/sec for 1.50 bolts! ![]() Bolt Sizes Comparison in general 0.75 bolts are considered "regular-military" grade, while 1.00 to 1.25 bolts are treated as "astartes-grade" (even though some regular military "heavy-bolters" use the 1.00 calibre). 1.50 bolts are very rare indeed and are typically only used by terminator-squads or dreadnoughts. boltguns shall be designed as extra-low powered smoothbore cannons and extra-short barrels with gun/launcher option, and these stats will be used to determine recoil effects.
